"The Earth is only an atom in the universe of worlds.."

It is 1877, in the United States, on a farm in Hopkinsville, Kentucky: where Edgar Cayce was born, a man whose destiny was that of becoming a very unique psychic.

He lived in an era in which any "unusual phenomenon" was labeled spiritualism or occultism, but Cayce was able to go beyond those definitions and tendencies to demonstrate to the world that it is possible to cross the borders of time and space.

In this "other" dimension he demonstrated how it is possible to have visions and obtain information which were important for curing an individual's physical health and for humankind's spiritual conscience.

His self-induced trance

While lying down on his couch, in a self-induced trance, Cayce would receive continuous information regarding the client's health (who was usually, but not always, present).

But not only: he could open himself up to precious information which permitted him to prescribe the best possible cures, notwithstanding the fact that he came from a very simple background, his schooling did not extend past the middle school, and he had absolutely no medical background.

He contacted the subconcsious of the person for whom he was giving the reading and delved into the Akashic Records, which he also called "The Book of God's Remembrances". The Akashic Records, as considered only in the esoteric tradition, is the storehouse of all information for every individual who has ever lived upon the earth. It was this record that Cayce accessed in order to give the information that was requested, even though he had no conscious knowledge of that information.

The Angel's Question

When he was 13 he saw an apparition which would influence his life forever thereafter: an angel, who asked him what he wanted "most of all", and he replied "to help other people, most of sick children".

In fact, one of his first readings was for a five year old little girl. Aime Dietrich, whose brain had been damaged by the flu, which subsequently blocked her development, thereby causing frequent convulsions.

The many doctors and specialists consulted were not able to cure her. Cayce's diagnosis referred to a problem which preceded the flu: the blockage was caused by a specific fall (confirmed by her parents).

He prescribed a series of osteopathic adjustments, and gave frequent readings about the girl's condition in order to make sure the adjustments were being properly performed.

After three weeks, Cayce gave another reading, and "saw" that the girl had responded perfectly, and was developing normally and would continue to do so.

But his first patient was himself. Hit by a baseball, Cayce, in a semi-trance, turned to his mother (who was his greatest supporter from the beginning),and instructed her how to prepare a medical preparation which subsequently cured him. Whenever he was sick, he was able to go into trance and prescribe a cure for himself.

The Healings

He was able to cure many people of tuberculosis, and of different hemorrages; he returned his son's sight to him, which he had lost in an accident, after the doctor's had decided to remove the eye; on one occasion he prescribed the use of a plant named "clary" (which no one had ever heard of) to treat a certain James Andrew. At the end of the treatment, the patient discovered that the preparation had been used in France 60 years earlier by a Parigian doctor, and had fallen into disuse.

At one point he recommended the use of a drug called Codiron, using the name and address of the Chicago company which produced it. When the patient called to firm to order the drug, he was informed by an incredulous employee that the drug had only recently been invented, and that the patent had been registered only one hour prior to the phone call, and was still considered secret.

The Doctors

Cayce was often ridiculed by the medical establishment, who frequently attacked him, trying to discredit his ability and his integrity. However, one of his greatest supporters was a member of that establishment: the osteopathic practitioner, Dr Wesley Ketchum, who helped him hundreds of times, after Cayce had healed his mentally ill patient.

After this episode, Dr. Ketchum was so convinced of Cayce's abilities that he presented all the cases of Cayce's healings to the American Society for Clinical Research.

All of Cayce's readings are held in Virginia, at the headquarters for the Association for Research and Enlightment. (A.R.E.).which was founded in 1931 with the purpose of studying and disseminating the readings.

Since its inception, the association has concentrated its efforts in the fields of holistic medicine, reincarnation, dreams and their interpretations, psych phenomenon, the force of thoughts, prayers and meditation, and philosophical and spiritual principles.

Notwithstanding the fact that Cayce's orthodox faith did not believe in reincarnation, he himself was a fervent believer, based on the information he received during his "trips" out of the ordinary realm.

This "astral healer" was a man of great christian faith, a fervent reader of the bible with a strong idealistic spirit, but who refused to use his talent to become wealthy. Rather, he worked incessantly to help as many people as possible, without any gain for himself.

Prophecies

Cayce didn't limit himself only with to the medical field in his readings: his greatest fame probably came about due to his prophecies.

"At the beginning of this century this unknown pioneer spoke about nuclear energy, of the planet Pluto which still hadn't been discovered (it was discovered in January 1930), of the television, of the endocrine glands, of the laser, and of the aura", wrote the French astrologer Dorothée Koechlin de Bizemont in her book The Prophecies of Edgar Cayce.

While he was in his state of self-hypnosis he also explained about the lost continent of Atlantis, which he described down to the most minute detail, furnishing many details about the "Posieidan capital" and of the other cities. Much of his information concerned the social, religious and scientific structure of the Atlantean culture.

According to Cayce, they had knowledge of atomic energy and had constructed flying machines. "Atlantis had been annihilated two times, he declared, the first time was caused by an explosion created by the products they used to exterminate the enormous animals which populated the earth, and the second was caused by an extremely powerful crystal which concentrated the sun's energy on the continent and which one day exploded, destroying everything…

We had many terrible crystals which collected energy from the stars. But when we violated God's Law, that of the universal brotherhood, we destroyed ourselves…"

He died in 1945.

a shadow of that in the spiritual plane".
